Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Resources
Treatment
General OCD
Rodger's Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin has a super intensive, residential treatment center specifically for OCD. See https://rogersbh.org/what-we-treat/ocd-anxiety/ocd-and-anxiety-residential-services/ocd-center
https://iocdf.org -- Internation OCD Foundation is packed with information on OCD. Check it out to see its many resources, including programs and clinics for help.
The Mindfulness Workbook for OCD: A Guide to Overcoming Obsessions and Compulsions Using Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbooks) by Jon Hershfield MFT is helpful to get a start on overcoming your OCD and learning more about it. Personally, my OCD was so intense when I did this that it didn't help. If you find this happening to you, get the next level of care. I started seeing my therapist twice a week, then I went inpatient several times at a hospital. Eventually, I needed even more intensive treatment, so my parents called Rodger's Memorial Hospital (See above).
Overcoming Obsessive Thoughts by Christine Purdon, Ph.D., C.Psych. and David A. Clark, Ph.D., L.Psych helps you learn about OCD and ways to treat it. This has really helpful strategies to use and comes highly recommended from my OCD therapist.
Scrupulosity OCD (or spiritual scrupulosity)
Scruples and Sainthood: Overcoming Scrupulosity with the help of the Saints by Trent Beattie is a great resource for Catholics with scrupulosity. It helped me realize that even the saints have scrupulosity. Guess what that means? I can be a saint!
Understanding Scrupulosity: Questions, Helps, and Encouragement by Rev. Thomas Santa C. Ss. R. helps to look at your scruples in a new way.
Spiritual Direction can be helpful with scrupulosity, if it is solely a spiritual problem. If you've been diagnosed with OCD, you probably will need some professional help. I have a combination of both professional psychiatry and spiritual direction. Ask a priest to be your spiritual director or contact your diocese or nearby retreat center to help you find a spiritual director. Prayers
Prayer for Resistance Against Compulsions
Lord, I am so overcome by obsessive thoughts. My brain and my hands are itching to do a compulsion. In Your Name, Jesus, give me the strength to deny myself this compulsion. I place all of my trust in You.
Prayer for the Blessed Virgin Mary to Take Care of All Obsessive Thoughts
I am all yours, my Mother, and all that I have is yours. --St. Louis de Montfort
Saints
Blessed Virgin Mary is God's own mother. Who better to turn to for prayers? How can Jesus refuse the request of His own mother?
St. Alphonsus Liguori struggled with scrupulosity. He's a great man to turn to, especially his writings. Not to mention, He's a Doctor of the Church.
St. Therese of Lisieux is also a Doctor of the Church and is believed to have suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. See her picture to the right.
Your Holy Guardian Angel is your own personal "saint." Each person has a Guardian Angel. Angels are the ones who bring all of our prayers to God, and God gives all of our angels the blessings and messages to send to us! Really cool to have angels! Ask your guardian angel to protect you!
With all saints, ask them to pray for you!
